SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Third-ranked UCLA scored a pair of second half goals to snap a halftime tie en route to a 3-1 win over UCSB on Sunday afternoon at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium. The Bruins (8-1-1) and Gauchos (3-6-1) were tied at half, but UCLA scored two goals in a span of 13 minutes to claim the win.

UCLA took a 1-0 edge early in the match. At the 4:33 mark, Sydney Leroux took a perfect pass from Kristina Larsen and went in against Gaucho goalkeeper Ali Cutler, scoring with a shot into the upper-left part of the goal.

The score remained 1-0 until the closing moments of the first half when UCSB knotted things up. Sophomore forward Alissa Sanchez took the ball deep into the right corner, beat a defender and cracked a perfect cross into the box. Freshman Erin Ortega maneuvered herself through several defenders and headed the ball into the goal, tying the score a 1-1.

UCLA broke the tie at the 49:51 mark when Lauren Barnes blasted a corner kick to the front of the goal and Jenna Belcher knocked in a shot off of UCSB defender.

The Bruins extended the lead in the 63rd minute when Sydney Leroux used a spectacular individual effort. She went down the right side, beat a pair of Gaucho defenders and beat Ali Cutler one-on-one, scoring into the left-hand part of the net.

The Gauchos will return to action on the road. They will open Big West play on Friday, Oct. 2 when they travel to UC Irvine for a 7:00 p.m. match against the Anteaters. UCSB returns home on Oct. 9 when it hosts Cal State Fullerton in a 7:00 p.m. match.

The ICA Ticket Office will be open from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays. The two parking spots, designated specifically for the ticket office, are already available during weekday hours, which are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
