UCSB Drops to 1-2 After 1-0 Loss to St. Mary's in Cal Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. - St. Mary's scored the only goal of the match midway through the second half and held on to defeat UC Santa Barbara 1-0 in the first match of the Cal Invitational in Berkeley, Calif., on Friday.
After the teams played a scoreless first half, Gael midfielder Gen Hollis drove down the left side of the box and slid a pass to forward Nikki Schrey who nudged a shot past UCSB goalkeeper Jamie Considine from about eight yards out. The contest's lone goal came at 64:18.
Although UCSB was outshot just 12-9, the Gauchos had just one shot on goal while St. Mary's had six. Considine had five saves for Santa Barbara and Gael goalkeeper Andrea Lee needed just one.
The defeat was the second in a row for UCSB, both by way of shutout. The Gauchos are now 1-2 on the year and St. Mary's improves to 2-1.
The Gauchos will take on Cal on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the final match of the Cal Invitational.
