2006: Heather Young will give UCSB a solid complement to Genelle Ives and Chandi Bickford on the front line...An outstanding athlete with very good speed and agility, Young could immediately become a force in the Big West.
Young played her first two seasons at Ohio State...As a freshman in 2004, she started and played in four matches before her season was cut short due to injury...She scored one goal, against sixth-ranked Portland...In 2005, she made just two appearances for the Buckeyes.
Young attended Torrey Pines High School where she played for Dennis Costello...Played all four years and as a senior was selected Offensive MVP and All-San Diego County by the North County Times...In 2003, Young helped her team to the CIF San Diego Section Division I championship...A First Team All-Palomar League selection...Named Torrey Pines' Most Athletic Female as a senior...On the club level, Young played for the San Diego Surf for 10 years...Helped lead the Surf to the National Finals in 2004 and to west regional championships in 1998 and 2004...The Surf was a three-time Cal-South State Champion, a two-time Coast League champion and a four-time Surf Cup champion...Member of the Cal-South ODP team for six years and a member of the 86/85 Region IV team for five years...Young was in the National Pool for one year...Toured Holland and Germany as a member of the USYSA National All-Star Team in 2003.
Born March 6, 1986 in San Diego, Calif....Also competed in softball and field hockey...A two-time San Diego Union-Tribune Scholar Athlete...In 2005, Young was an Ohio State University Scholar Athlete...Plans on majoring in art history...Parents are Mike and Kathleen Young.
