Ruiz returned after sitting-out the 2002 season with a knee injury...She started and played in 18 matches as a junior...Scored one goal and one assist for three total points...Tallied her goal in a win over Southern Utah...With Ruiz in the lineup, the Gauchos allowed 15 goals in 18 matches for a goals against average of less than 1.00, but in the three matches in which she missed, UCSB allowed six goals.
2001
Ruiz made the shift from midfielder to defender during her sophomore season...She actually opened the season as a midfielder...Emerged late in the season as the Gaucho defense made huge strides after struggling early in the year...Played in 14 contests, starting ten...Scored her only goal of the season against Westmont.

She played in 17 matches as a freshman, starting three...While she did not score, Ruiz did attempt 12 shots on the year.
