Darci Gwartz will be one of UCSB's top returning midfielders...One of the best passers on the team, she should step forward as one of the team's top playmakers...One of the team captains for 2006.
Gwartz followed up a breakthrough sophomore season with an impressive junior campaign, starting 18 of 19 games and finishing with two goals and two assists...She was selected Honorable Mention All-Big West for a second straight season...Gwartz's 18 shots ranked third on the team while her six points were tied for third...Best game came against Hawaii when she went for a goal and an assist in the Gauchos' 3-1 victory...Other goal came against Arizona on Sept. 25 while her other assist came against Long Beach State.
Gwartz earned Honorable Mention All-Big West honors following her sophomore season...She tallied two goals and six assists for 10 points...Her 10 points ranked fifth on the team, and her six assists were third...Her first goal of the season came in an 8-2 win over UNC Charlotte ...Gwartz scored her second goal in dramatic fashion, scoring in overtime of a key Big West match against Cal State Northridge, giving UCSB the win...She was selected Big West Player of the Week after assisting on four of six goals scored by the Gauchos in wins over Long Beach State (4-1), and UC Irvine (2-0)...Assisted on three goals in the win over Long Beach State...Gwartz played in all 21 matches, starting 20...She recorded 22 shots on the season, including a season-high three on two occasions.
Gwartz saw significant playing time as a freshman...She played in 20 of the team's 21 matches, starting five...Scored two goals and two assists for a total of six points...Tallied her first career goal in a win over Southern Utah...Her second goal came in a 1-1 Big West tie against UC Irvine...Both of her assists came in an 8-0 win over Idaho...Gwartz attempted 22 shots on the season, including a season-high three in a match at Long Beach State.
At the club level, Gwartz competed for CRSC Infinity...Attended El Dorado High School...At El Dorado HS, she set school records for career goals (45), career points (114), career minutes played (6,678) and career starts (87)...She also ranks second in school history in assists (24)...Gwartz was a two-time team MVP...She was chosen Second Team All-Century League as a senior and First Team All-Empire League as a junior...She was also a two-time All-CIF selection and she was chosen to play in the CIF Division II Senior Bowl...Helped to lead her team to Empire League titles in 2000 and 2002...Her team also advanced to the CIF Division II Semifinals once and Division III Semifinals another time...Played for Juan Mares.
