Katie Cooper should once again help to anchor the UCSB defense...She is, by far, the most experienced Gaucho defender.
2004
Cooper was one of just two UCSB players to play in and start all 21 matches in 2004...The team's top defender, she was selected Second Team All-Big West following the season...A true stay-at-home defender, Cooper not only did not score a point as a junior, she did not attempt a shot.
2003
Cooper was plagued by injuries during her sophomore season...She missed five full matches due to injuries...Started 12 of her 16 matches...Attempted just one shot on the season but did not record a point.
2002
Cooper played in and started all 20 matches as a freshman...She was an Honorable Mention All-Big West choice...While she only had eight shots from her defender position, Cooper scored one goal and assisted on another...Her goal came against Nevada...Her lone assist came on one of Krystal Sandza's UCSB record-breaking five goals against Air Force.

Cooper played for the Claremont Stars of the Coast Soccer Premier League where she was coached by Mike and Kim Dyer...Helped lead the Stars to either the championship or the finals of the Surf Cup, Nomads Cup, Rimland Pacific Cup, Pikes Peak Invitational, Pleasanton Classic and the Celtic Cup...Was a key defender for the Spirit as they went to the 2001 Surf Cup Championship without allowing a goal...Cooper competed at Claremont High School in Claremont, CA...Played sweeper, defensive marking back, central midfield and forward in high school...As a senior, Cooper played defender and midfielder and she scored nine goals and had four assists for 22 points...Played sweeper and defender as a junior, leading her team to a Baseline League Championships in 2000 and 2001...Following her final two campaigns, Cooper earned First Team All-Baseline League, Second Team All-CIF and team MVP honors...She was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year...Also named Baseline League Rookie of the Year and honorable mention All-Baseline League in her first prep season...Played for Tim Tracey in high school.
