Jennifer Borcich will be the focal point of UCSB's attack for the fourth straight year.
Borcich was selected Big West Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career and for the third time in her three seasons, she was selected First Team All-Big West...Also named Second Team All-Region...Had a league-leading13 goals...Borcich also tallied seven assists for the third year in a row and she paced the Big West with 33 total points...She had three two-goal matches, one each against Charlotte, Southern Utah and UC Riverside...Her two-goal performance against UC Riverside came in the first round of the Big West Tournament...Before being blanked by Cal Poly in the season-finale, Borcich scored goals in six consecutive matches...The Gauchos posted an 8-0-2 record in matches in which Borcich scored a goal...In fact, she led the team with three game-winning goals...She had a season-high two assists in a match against Xavier...In fact, when Borcich scored either a goal or an assist, UCSB's record was 10-1-2 with the only loss coming to nationally-ranked Pepperdine...She played in and started all 21 matches as a junior.
Borcich was selected First Team All-Big West following her sophomore season...Ranked second on the team with 17 goals and 41 points...Also added seven assists, third on the team...Borcich had a streak near the end of the season when she scored goals in seven consecutive matches...The seven match streak ended in the season-finale...She recorded the second hat trick of her career in a win at Idaho...Also had two-goal performances against USF and Air Force...Overall, Borcich scored goals in 13 of the team's 20 contests...Her 17 goals for the season rank as the tenth most in school history and the 41 points rank tied for ninth...She was second on the team with 90 shots, seventh all-time...Borcich played in and started all 20 matches.
As a freshman, Borcich was selected the Big West Conference's Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year...Also named First Team All-Big West as a forward...In 2001, she led the Big West Conference in goals with 11, assists with seven and points with 29...Recorded UCSB's first hat trick in 12 years when she notched three goals in a 3-1 win over Weber State...Her three-goal performance came in the sixth match of the year and those were her first three goals of the season...Scored all 11 goals in her final 12 matches of the season...In the Gauchos' penultimate match last season, against Cal State Fullerton, she broke her left forearm in the first half and missed the remainder of that match and the finale against Cal Poly...In addition to her performance against Weber State, Borcich had two-goal matches against Long Beach State and UC Riverside...Borcich's 11 goals came on just 43 official shots.
Her career total of 41 goals ranks fourth on UCSB's all-time list and her point total of 103 is also fourth...Borcich has attempted 212 shots in her first three seasons as a Gaucho, the fourth most in school history...She has missed one game in three seasons, the season-finale her freshman year.
