SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- Sophomore Chace Schornstein's goal in the 104th minute broke a 2-2 tie and gave UC Santa Barbara a 3-2 win over visiting UC Riverside on Friday night.

After the teams battled through a scoreless first 10 minutes of OT, Schornstein struck when she accepted a pass from sophomore Amanda Ball and put the game-winner into the lower left portion of the goal. The win improved the Gauchos' record to 11-4-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big West, good for 12 points and a tie for first-place with Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State.

Freshman Mallory Hromatko scored the first goal of the game, also of an assist Ball. Hromatko took a pass from Ball, dribbled up the right side of the box and took a shot that was stopped by UCR goalie Elizabeth Silas. Hromatko regained control and took another shot to the top left of the box, making it 1-0 UCSB.

The Highlanders came out strong in the second half with two goals from freshman Darielle O'Brien. The first came off of a corner kick that was shot into the top right of the box. O'Brien's second goal resulted from a cross from the left side followed by a shot into the top right corner.

The Gauchos retaliated with a goal from freshman Jessica Parque. After a corner kick from senior Savannah Francis, Parque trapped the ball in the penalty box, and shot it into the upper left side, evening the score out to 2-2 in the 74th minute.

UCSB finished the game with an 10-6 shot advantage over UCR.

This match marked the 3rd win in a row for the Gauchos bringing their overall record to 11-4-1. The Highlanders fall to 9-8-0.

UCSB returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 25 when it hosts UC Irvine on Meredith Field at Harder Stadium at 1:00 p.m. The game will be the Gauchos' final home contest of the season.
