The Gauchos host UC Riverside on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Highlanders begin the weekend tied for first in the Big West Conference with a 3-1 record and nine points. On Sunday, UCSB travels to Orange County to face Cal State Fullerton, which will enter its Friday game with a 1-1-1 league record.

    UCSB Kicks-Off Big West Play at Home with UC Irvine, Long Beach State UCSB host its first two Big West Conference games of the season this weekend and it will be a major challenge. The Gauchos will open league play on Friday night against UC Irvine and then they will play Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon. Both the Anteaters and 49ers are among the favorites to win the Big West in 2013 and each has had tremendous success in recent years. In the annual preseason coaches poll, they were picked to tie for second behind the favorite, Cal State Fullerton. Long Beach has wins over two ranked teams this season (Texas Tech and BYU), while Irvine has one (BYU).
