SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore Erica Shelton pounded home a penalty kick in the 54th minute and the UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team held on for its second straight win, 1-0 at San Diego State.

The Gauchos (5-5-1) were outshot by the Aztecs (5-4-2) 14-7 overall and 4-2 in shots on goal, but were able to muster-up enough offense to win by a 1-0 score for the second straight game.  It is UCSB's first two-game winning streak of the 2011 season.

With the game scoreless, Santa Barbara was awarded a penalty kick at the 53:58 mark when midfielder Sophie Metz was whistled for a foul in the penalty box.  After Gaucho midfielder Katy Roby beat two Aztec defenders, she was felled in the box by Metz.  Shelton was tabbed to attempt the kick and converted.  It was her first goal of the season and it pushed the Gauchos back to the break-even mark for the year.

While UCSB outshot Nevada 28-1 on Sunday, it was not nearly as dominant against San Diego State.  The Aztecs, coached by former Gaucho assistant coach Mike Friesen, had 10 shots in the second half alone.  They also had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but the Gauchos' defense, led by sophomore goalkeeper Makenna Henry who notched four saves, was up to the task.

UCSB remains on the road for one more game.  The Gauchos travel to Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday to take-on the Roadrunners at 5:00 p.m., before opening Big West play at home on Friday, Sept. 30 against Long Beach State.

Tickets for all UCSB women's soccer games can be purchased at the Ticket Office in the Ticket Office in the Intercollegiate Athletics Building on campus, by calling 805-893-UCSB or online by going here.

Gaucho men's and women's basketball season tickets are also on sale.  The two-time defending Big West champion men's team will face one of its toughest schedules in years.  The home slate includes traditional rival UNLV and 2011 Sweet 16 participant San Diego State, as well as the Big West schedule.  Tickets are available by visiting the Ticket Office in the Intercollegiate Athletics Building on campus, by calling 805-893-UCSB or by clicking on this link.
