SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara women's basketball head coach Lindsay Gottlieb has been named an at-large representative to the State Farm Coaches All-America Team Division I selection committee, a prestigious honor that only a handful of coaches nationwide can claim.
Gottlieb, who was named Big West Coach of the Year in her first season at UCSB last year, joins a select group of women's basketball coaches from around the country in helping to select the All-American teams at season's end. The 10-player All-American team is one of the biggest honors for a women's basketball player.
"I am honored to have been selected to serve on the SFCAAT Committee," Gottlieb said. "Not only will I have the opportunity to take part in the important process of choosing this year's State Farm All-Americans, but I look forward to working closely with so many accomplished coaching colleagues. I believe strongly that young coaches should give back and serve our organization, the WBCA, as so many of the leaders in our sport have done; to be able to do so as a part of this prestigious committee is both exciting and humbling."
Gottlieb will help represent western teams in Region's 7 and 8, providing valuable insight about players that might not have as much exposure due to the late start times east coast coaches have to battle to watch west coast teams.
"The goal of all this is just make sure that the committee selects the 10 best players in the country as the All-America team," said Women's Basketball Coaches Association Communications Coordinator Carol White. "The committee wants to have all of the tools it needs to select these players - so they want all conferences, regions, teams fairly represented and represented as strongly as possible."
