March 5, 2007

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After finishing second in the Big West Conference standings, the UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team had three players selected to all-conference teams, the league office announced today. Jessica Wilson also earned the final Big West Player of the Week award for her performance last week against Pacific and Cal State Northridge.

Earning a spot on the six-player All-Big West First Team for the second year in a row was junior center Jenna Green. The San Jose, Calif. native was the only player to start all 29 games for UCSB during the regular season and scored in double figures in all but four contests in 2006-07. Green led the conference shooting 53% from the field, while her average of 16 points per game ranked fourth and paced the Gauchos. She was also second among Big West shot blockers averaging 1.7 per night and seventh in rebounding at 7.2. Green was a member of the Big West All-Freshman Team in 2003-04, and was selected to all-conference second team last season.

After taking home second team honors as a sophomore in 2005-06, Wilson was named Second Team All-Big West again this season after leading the conference in assists at 4.5 per game. The native of Sacramento, Calif., who was second on the team in scoring (13.4) and rebounding (6.7), also averaged 1.96 steals per contest, the fourth highest in the league, and ranked seventh in the Big West shooting 44.7% from the floor. Wilson scored in double-digits 20 times during the regular season, with three performances of 20 or more.

The 5'10" junior earned her second Big West Player of the Week award after leading the Gauchos to a pair of victories on the road last week, including the 90-79 win over Cal State Northridge to clinch the Big West's second seed. Wilson shot extremely well in both contests, posting a .619 clip from the field and .714 mark from three-point range for the week.

With 20 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, Wilson led the Gauchos in the 79-67 victory over Pacific Thursday, collecting her fourth double-double this season. In Saturday's matchup with the Matadors, the guard scored UCSB's first five points to help build an early Gaucho lead that they would never relinquish. She finished with a team-high 17 points to lead six players in double figures for Santa Barbara and recorded seven rebounds and four assists.

Rounding out the all-conference awards was Jordan Franey, who was named the Big West Freshman of the Year after earning a spot on the all-freshman squad. The 6'0" forward shined from behind the three-point arc, ranking seventh in the conference in three-point shooting percentage (.333) and eighth in three-pointers made (1.34). Playing in all 29 of Santa Barbara's contests, the San Diego, native pulled down 115 rebounds, while dishing out 52 assists. Franey is the first UCSB freshman to take home the honor since Kristen Mann in 2002.

The Gauchos (17-12 overall) begin their quest for a 10th Big West Tournament title in the last 11 years this Friday, March 9 in the semifinal round against an opponent yet to be determined. Tip-off is slated for approximately 2:30 p.m. in the Anaheim Convention Center.
