Trailing 37-35 at intermission, UC Irvine outscored the Gauchos 20-7 to open the second half Thursday night and never looked back en route to an 82-69 victory over the Gauchos in the Thunderdome. The Anteaters found themselves ahead 55-46 with 13:37 remaining, a lead that mushroomed to 65-52 when Annie Mai drove baseline for a layup at the 8:02 mark. The Gauchos responded with seven unanswered points capped by Jessica Wilson's basket, but back-to-back-to-back three-pointers - two from Melissa Jacob - pushed UCI's advantage back to 74-59 with 4:42 left. Santa Barbara could not pull closer than nine points the rest of the way, and the jubilant Anteaters stormed the court after shooting a blistering 55.9% in the second half. Irvine (8-16, 6-6 Big West) won its fourth straight contest and snapped a 10-game losing streak at the hands of UCSB.
