SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - On Thursday, the UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team will hold its annual Pink Zone game to raise breast cancer awareness. The game, against UC Riverside, will also be a women's "Legends of the 'Dome" event, unveiling the first legend from the women's basketball program.
Like last year, the women's basketball players and staff will design pink warm-up T-shirts which will then be auctioned off through halftime of Thursday's game. Proceeds from the auction will go towards raising breast cancer awareness. The players will individually design the shirts, then wear them in warm-ups prior to the game vs. the Highlanders.
The shirts will then be displayed at The Gaucho Shop at the front entrance of the Thunderdome, where fans can place a bid in a silent auction. Following halftime of Thursday's game, the bidders are asked to return to the front entrance to see if they have won the auction for a pink shirt.
Following the game, the players will individually hand the shirts to the winners.
All fans who come to Thursday's game are asked to wear pink in a show of unity in raising breast cancer awareness. In addition, the first 250 fans to the game will be given a free Pink Zone shirt.
The legends ceremony will honor UCSB's first women's basketball legend and the third in the inaugural class. Click here to find out more about previous legends Roberta Gehlke of women's volleyball and Carrick DeHart of men's basketball.
The UCSB Athletics Ticket Office is also offering The Legends Pack. For $40 fans will receive four tickets to the legends game, along with four hot dogs and four sodas. Please click here to purchase or call (805) 893-UCSB.
