THE ESSAY CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUBMISSIONS!
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team is celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day during its Saturday, Feb. 7 game vs. UC Irvine. The theme this year is "Look Who's Playing."
The UCSB Intercollegiate Athletics Department, in conjunction with the women's basketball team, is asking girls ages seven to 13 to help celebrate this special day by submitting an essay in our first-ever Girls Youth Essay Contest.
All applicants will receive free admission to the game and will be able to participate in a meet-and-greet with the Gauchos following the game. The essay contest winners will be announced during halftime and will receive a prize.
In the essay, applicants should respond to the following questions: Why do you play sports or what do you like about sports? What do sports do for you or give to you? How do you plan to use sports in the future?
Essays must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 30, 2009.
The Feb. 7 game vs. UC Irvine is a Santa Barbara News-Press Kids to College event where all kids 13 and under will receive free admission.
Tickets are available by calling (805) 893-UCSB, coming to the Intercollegiate Athletics building on campus or by clicking here.
