Onome Jemerigbe is quick. Really quick. At point guard, the Gaucho freshman used her speed as a playmaker during her celebrated high school career.
Jemerigbe played for nationally renowned St. Mary's High School in Stockton. With the Rams, she was a part of two CIF State Championship teams, and also reached the state semifinals her junior and senior years.
She calls winning her second state championship as her favorite athletic achievement. On the road to the finals, Jemerigbe dropped 23 points in the semifinals and helped the Rams clinch the state crown with 12 points, one assist, and two steals.
As a senior, she was ranked 7th in NorCal Prep's Top-40 as a four star recruit. Her play led St. Mary's to a 32-3 overall record (10-0 in league). The program was ranked No. 7 in California and No.14 nationally during Jemerigbe's senior season. Earning statewide recognition even as a junior, she was also the No. 9 player in NorCal Prep's top-10 in 2012.
When she wasn't playing point guard for the Rams, Jemerigbe dedicated her basketball time to the Cal Sparks NorCal in the Nike Skills Academy. Competing alongside some of top players in the region, Jemerigbe's ability to create better scoring opportunities for her team made her a standout with the Cal Sparks.
She and the rest of the Gauchos will open the 2013-14 season on Monday, Nov. 4 in the Thunderdome when they host Vanguard in an exhibition game.
Great season ticket packages are available for the Gauchos. This year's home schedule includes plenty of high-profile matchups including Arizona, Utah State, and San Diego State, a rematch of last season's WNIT game.
