"This schedule will test our team and force us to play its best every game," UCSB coach Carlene Mitchell said. "Many of our home games will give us the opportunity to compete against postseason caliber teams. It will be exciting for our fans to watch these games that will help us prepare our challenging Big West schedule and into March."
The Gauchos' nonconference home schedule is filled with talented teams including the defending Mountain West Regular Season Champion San Diego State (Nov. 30), who played UCSB in the 2013 WNIT.
UCSB will also host Hampton University on Nov. 26. The Lady Pirates finished as the best defensive team in the country last season by limiting their opponents to just 48.8 point per game.
Seattle University is coming off its second straight postseason appearance and will visit the Gauchos on Dec. 28.
Following the demanding nonconference portion of their schedule, the Gauchos open Big West play with three straight home games. UCSB will host their only exhibition game on Nov. 4 against Vanguard. The team will officially tip-off the 2013-14 schedule when they face Occidental on Nov. 10, followed by a competitive matchup with Arizona on Nov. 16.
In the Big West, UCSB will face three teams that made last year's postseason. Hawai'i will visit Santa Barbara on Feb. 6, while Long Beach State will be featured on Feb. 13– both teams were 2013 WNIT contenders.
The Gauchos will wrap up the regular season at home playing the defending Big West Champion Cal Poly Mustangs on Mar. 8.
In her second season at the helm, UCSB head coach Carlene Mitchell led the Gauchos to back-to-back postseason appearances.
The Gauchos return All-Big West
guard Nicole Nesbit and an excellent supporting cast of Melissa
Zornig, Destini Mason, Jasmine Ware, and Kendra Morrison.
