With that success, UCSB became accustomed to cutting down nets, as the program have captured the conference crown a record 14 times. The team has also had a record 40 all-tournament selections.

    The Gauchos are coming off a weekend when they fell at UC Riverside and evened the season series at Cal State Fullerton. UCSB took a 24-19 lead at halftime after holding Riverside to an abysmal 22.2 percent shooting clip. The Highlanders would rally in the second half with 48 points en route to their 67-57 victory. The Gauchos shook off the loss by downing Cal State Fullerton 64-54 two nights later. Nicole Nesbit led the scoring effort with 19 points, while Clair Watkins recorded her first career double double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

    SANTA BARBARA, Calif.– The UC Santa Barbara women’s basketball team will host their annual Play 4Kay game on Saturday against UC Davis to help raise breast cancer awareness. Each Gaucho women's basketball player will decorate and wear a special pink warm-up shirt that will be available for purchase through a silent auction with the proceeds going towards cancer research. During the game, 10 percent of all purchases made at the Gaucho Shop will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

    Last week, the Gauchos put up a 80-69 win over Long Beach State before falling at Cal State Northridge 78-54. The 80-point output was the most by the Gauchos this season, and the most since UCSB dropped 84 points on Pacific in the 2012 Big West Tournament semifinals. Over the weekend, the Gauchos were led by Melissa Zornig who averaged 19.5 points and nine rebounds which garnered her a Big West Player of the week nomination.

    The Gauchos will be looking to build off a narrow 63-60 defeat to Hawai’i as they begin the second round of Big West play this week. Against the Rainbow Wahine, Melissa Zornig led the Gauchos with 16 points (7-14), which helped the team garner a six-point lead with 13 minutes left. UCSB held on to the lead until the 2:32 mark, as Hawai’i was able to close the game out at the free throw line.

    UCSB returns to the Thunderdome after dropping back-to-back contests last week. First, the Gauchos took on UC Irvine where they lost 77-60 and went on to lose at UC Davis 82-70. Melissa Zornig led the team in both games with 12 points and 14 points, respectively. The senior also pulled down eight rebounds against the Aggies for another team-high mark. UCSB finds itself in eighth place with a 1-6 conference record and one game ahead of UC Riverside which is still in search of its first Big West victory.

In addition to outrebounding the Highlanders 55-30, the Gauchos had a pair of standout performances from Nicole Nesbit, who finished with a game-high 20 point, and Jasmine Ware, who recorded her first career double-double with personal-best marks of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Against Cal State Fullerton, UCSB held a 10-point lead at halftime but were outscored 44-29 in the final 20 minutes. The Titans scored netted 10 three-pointers, including six in the second half, to take the 67-62 victory.

The 49ers outpaced the Gauchos 72-53 after taking a 12-2 run to open the second half. Destini Mason flirted with a double double that night, scoring 17 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Later in the week, UCSB fell to CSUN 64-46 in its Big West home opener. Nicole Nesbit finished the game with a team-high 13 points and a career-best tying six rebounds.
