• at UC Irvine, 3/6 Led by Kassandra McCalister in both games, UC Irvine swept the season series over UCSB for the first time since the 1987-88 season. McCalister, an All-Big West First Team pick, had 21 points in UCI’s 61-53 win over the Gauchos and a career-high 36 in the Anteaters’ 72-65 victory two weeks ago. Anete Klintsone averages 9.3 points per game for UCI and Jacquelyn Marshall scores 9.0 points per game for Molly Goodenbour, in her fourth season at Irvine. Pink Zone Game Highlights Gauchos' Home Slate This Week
Saturday's UCSB-CSU Bakersfield game is the Gauchos' annual WBCA Pink Zone game. The event, which helps raise breast cancer awareness, will once again have special things planned for fans. Each member of the Gauchos will decorate a pink shooting shirt which will be available for purchase, allowing fans the opportunity to bring home something unique with proceeds going towards breast cancer awareness. In addition, the first 250 fans will receive pink pom-poms and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game to show their support of the cause. UC Santa Barbara head coach Carlene Mitchell earned her first career Big West Conference victory on Saturday with a 39-37 victory over Cal State Fullerton. The win will be memorable for more reasons than that, though. The 39 points marked the lowest total in a Gaucho win since a 29-23 victory over Cal in the 1973-74 season and Saturday’s victory pushed UCSB’s winning streak to 38 straight games vs. Fullerton, the fifth-longest active mark between conference foes in the nation.

Tabytha Wampler is the lone NMSU player who scores in double figures with a 13.5 points per game average and she carries a 9.4 rebound per game mark. The Aggies average 53.4 points and allow 64.9 points to opponents. The Aggies are coached by former USC head coach, Mark Trakh, who is in his first season.

Gauchos Continue Homestand vs. UNLV on Saturday at 4 p.m.
UC Santa Barbara is continuing its defensive dominance this season, holding opponents to just 51.0 points per game, ranking the squad 19th in the nation. The Gauchos are also allowing opponents to shoot just 35.8% from the floor. This shouldn’t be a surprise because last year UCSB led the conference in field goal percentage defense (18th in the nation) at 35.5%. In 2009-10, UCSB allowed opponents to shoot 36.3%, which was 31st in the nation, and in 2008-09, the Gauchos allowed opponents to hit 34.6% of their shots, ranking eighth in the country.

Junior forward Sweets Underwood leads UCSB in both points (26 total) and rebounds (20) after the Gauchos’ first two games last weekend. The Compton, Calif. native then led the team with 12 points on Sunday at Portland State. SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara women’s basketball star Emilie Johnson has been named to Team USA for the 2011 Pan American Games, to take place in mid-October. The senior guard is one of 12 players on the team and the only fourth Gaucho to be chosen to play for USA Basketball.
