Fullerton, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara topped all collegians Friday evening in the Titan Invitational when the Gauchos' men won their race and the women finished behind only Cal Coast Track Club.
Senior Mike Powers of UCSB was the second individual to finish the men's race, running the 5 mile course in 26:22. The winner was Juan Mejia of Cal State San Marcos in 25:49. The men placed 4 runners in the top 10 and 7 finished in the top 20.
Powers was followed in the top 10 by junior Gabe Lopez 7th/26:33, Senior Tetlo Emmen 8th/26:50 and freshman Colton Tully-Doyle 10th/26:53. Finishing off the scoring positions for the Gauchos was freshman Julian DeRubira 13th/26:58.
It was a great showing of depth for the Gaucho men as the top nine did no compete in preparation for the Big West Conference Meet. Eight of the nine who ran at Fullerton will be returning next year. In the team standings, Cal State San Marcos was second in the men's race with Cal Coast third and UC Irvine fourth.
