Courtesy of a final burst by Darren Salmi, the UCSB Men edged out the UCSB Alumni at the UCSB Lagoon in a three-way meet that also included UC Irvine. Salmi ran a 26:59 punctuated by a kick that allowed him to beat UCSB Alum Liam Jones by one second, putting Salmi in fifth and Jones in sixth, a single point shift that pushed the meet to UCSB, 32-33. Irvine finished a distant third in the 8k race with 60 points.
Jeff Jacobs, now an assistant coach for the UCSB men, won the race in 26:01, pursued by Noah Lidman of UCSB who clocked a 26:08. Rounding out the top six were Jason Colb and Liam Jones, UCSB Alumni, who placed third and sixth with times of 26:23 and 27:00 respectively. Chris White and Darren Salmi ran for UCSB and finished at 26:49 and 26:59. UC Irvine's top time went to Brian Harrison who came in seventh at 27:10. Several of UC Irvine and UCSB's top runners did not compete.
