Fresno, Calif. -
Josh Horton, a junor from Virginia, used a strong clising kick Saturday to win the 36th annual Fresno State Invitational cross country meet at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Horton, who completed the eight-kilometer course in 25:14, defeated Stanford's Daniel Parris by two seconds and Grant Robinson by ten seconds. Eric Gans (25:45) and Brandon von Guenthner (25:50) took sixth and seventh, helping the Gauchos to a second-Place finish behind Stanford (28-45) in the seven school meet.
"Josh overcame Parris in the last 150 yards," said UCSB head coach Pete Dolan. "That's his trademark - blistering finishes. He's from Virginia and his nickname is 'The Beast from the East'.
"This is a good result for us. We beat (third-place) Cal and its always nice to take down a Pac-Ten team."
