2006 Track & Field -- Regaining his health, Tyhurst began to get back to his 2004 form. Never running one bad race in '06, Tyhurst set seasonal bests of 3:54.30 in the 1500m at the USC Trojan Invitational, 9:08.20 in the steeplechase, achieved at the Mt. SAC Invitational and 14:24.04 in the 5,000m, run at the Stanford Invitational. However, he again saved the best for last as he turned himself loose at the Big West Championships. Running the 5k/10k double for the second year in a row, he again scored big points for the Gauchos. First up in the 10,000m on Friday night he wooed the fans with a blistering 59 second last lap to win the event and claim his first Big West crown in a personal best 30:54.91. Then on day two, he would come in fourth place in the 5,000m to solidify fifteen points for UCSB in his third year.
2005 Cross Country -- Fighting small, lingering injuries, Tyhurst was unable to return to his Track form. He would run the Stanford Invite in 25:05 as the Gauchos 8th man and then would train through the rest of the season preparing for the Big West Championships. At the Championships he would set a new life time 8k best of 24:26 coming across the line in 12th place as the Gauchos fourth man. He would then help out UCSB as their third man at the NCAA West Regional Championships in 10k cross country best of 31:34.3 in 58th place.
2005 Track & Field -- A determined Tyhurst in '05 dropped his personal bests significantly in what became a fantastic sophomore year. At 5,000m he opened up the season with a win at the Benny Brown Invitational racing in 14:44.15 a PR by almost twenty seconds. He then won a heat at the Stanford Invitational with another PR of 14:36.13 only to see himself drop yet another PR at the Mt. Sac Invitational with a time of 14:17.72. In a great weekend of racing, Tyhurst would finish 5th in the Big West Championship 10,000m and then ranked ninth going into 5K final the next day he would wind up in 3rd place grabbing All-Conference honors. He also set personal bests in the 1500m and just missed an NCAA Regional Qualifier in the steeplechase when he won the Steve Scott Invitational in 9:08.84.
