Concluded his cross country career epitomizing the Gaucho training benefits. Five years ago, Service was a slightly above average high school runner. J.T.'s 2002 season consisted of a fourth place finish at the Big West Championships and an 18th place effort at the NCAA West Regional race -- ahead of programs' top runners from UCLA, Cal, Washington, Arizona and over a dozen other respected west coast programs.
Continued to show remarkable improvement...Took second in the Big West steeple, sixth in the 10K and 10th in the 5K...Steeple best of 9:03.55 puts him on the Gaucho top-ten list.
2001 Cross Country
One of the team's most improved athletes and crucial to the success of the team...Earned all-Conference honors as the team's fouth runner to place ninth at the conference championships...Best race at the Pre-NCAA meet, where he took 44th.
Finished fifth at the Big West Championships in the steeplechase with a best of 9:20.76...Also finished third at the Big West Challenge Cup 3000m with a best of 8:40.44.
2000 Cross Country
Reduced his Stanford 8K personal best by two and a half minutes to contribute as the team's fifth man en route to the Gauchos' secnd place finish...Member of the team's top seven at Big West and Regionals.
Placed seventh in the 3000m steeplechase and eighth in the 5000m at the Big West Track and Field Championships as a true freshman...Got his feet wet in his first year as a Gaucho, setting PR's of 9:34.46 in the 3000m steeplechase and 15:00.32 in the 5000m.
1999 Cross Country
The Gauchos' fourth runner in the NCAA Region 8 Cross Country Championships which proved to be crucial to the UCSB's 10th place team finish.
Came to UCSB from Arch Bishop Mitty High School...His top track race was a 9:45 3,200...In cross country, he was the team's secnd man with a Woodward 5K time of 16:34.
