Peter Van Beurden enters his first season as an Assistant Coach for the Gauchos.
Prior to UCSB, Van Beurden was the distance coach at Morro Bay High School while competing for the Cal Poly Distance Club. Over his 5 years there, he was able to guide multiple athletes and teams to the CIF State Championships in Cross Country and Track & Field and to new school records. Most notable was Austin Lay who finished his career with a 9:02.01 3200m and now competes for the Gauchos. He has also had athletes run 1:58.55 in the 800m, 4:17.96 in the 1600m and 15:10.68 in the 5000m.
Van Beurden has a 10K PR of 32:38.27, which set a club record, and was the 2013 NIRCA XC West Regional Champion.
Van Beurden graduated from Cal Poly SLO in the spring of 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
