Nick Randazzo Earns Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors

Santa Barbara, Calif. - Sophomore Nick Randazzo (Ventura, Calif.) was distinguished with Big West Cross County Athlete of the Week Honors after his performance at the Cal State Fullerton-hosted Mark Covert Classic at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, Calif. this past weekend. In what could be considered a Big West Conference Championship preview, the Gauchos took on all of the Big West Conference save Hawaii on Saturday with Randazzo coming out on top on the men's side, winning the 8k distance in 24:41.0. He was able to pull away from the field in the last mile to take the victory by a good seven seconds over Cal State Fullerton duo Sam Pimentel and Jacob Smith.

In addition, Nick's performance was also his first ever collegiate victory in cross country, a fitting gift to himself as he celebrated his 19th birthday on the same day as the race. He was able to lead the Gaucho men to a second place team finish overall in a field of 13.

Others nominated (men): Jake Ritter (Cal Poly); Samuel Pimentel (Cal State Fullerton); Michael Merchan (CSUN)
