Gauchos Set Sights on Season Opener

Santa Barbara, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Cross Country team is set to make their season debut at the annual UCSB Lagoon Open where they will face off against Big West rivals Cal Poly.

The festivities will commence at 8 am starting with the high school division races, which will then be followed by the alumni/community 5k at 10:15 am and the collegiate/open races at 11 am. This year's meet will also include a tour of the Pauley Track for those interested in witnessing the facility's renovation progress after the conclusion of the meet.

8:00am: High School Girls Short Course 
8:30am: High School Boys Short Course
9:00am: High School Girls Long Course
9:45am: High School Boys Long Course 
10:15am: Alumni/Community 5k
11:00am: Women's OPEN 5k (UCSB, Cal Poly, Open)
11:30am: Men's OPEN 8k (UCSB, Cal Poly, Open)


The Women's 5k and Men's 8k are open to unattached or club elite athletes. Please contact Darius Terry if you'd like more information at


The Gauchos head into this season after a second place finish for the men and a third place finish for the women at the 2016 Big West Cross Country Championships. Head Coach Pete Dolan considers this upcoming meet to be an interesting time for the team to see how the season will unfold. "We have a nice group of freshman coming in and it'll be exciting to see what they can do." He also commented on SR  George Baier and SR Jenna Hinkle having been, "the stalwarts of the program," so their leadership will be key for this upcoming year.


$20 - Includes Entry in Alumni/Community 5k and post-race refreshments. You can pay for entry early at this link here.

$100 or more - All Alumni are encouraged to join "The Gaucho Order", which includes Alumni/Community race entry, T-shirt, and post-race refreshments.

$50 for recent alumni to join "The Gaucho Order" (Graduation year of 2010 and later)

Please make checks payable to "UC Regents" and designate "UCSB Men's Cross Country" or "UCSB Women's Cross Country" in the memo.


UCSB Cross Country Alum, Scott Ingram will host a barbecue at his house on the mesa in Santa Barbara after the race. All alumni and their families are invited. Come and relive the glory days with past teammates and connect with other gaucho greats. RSVP is required to Darius Terry for those wishing to attend. Please contact him to do so.
