Gauchos Wrap up Season at NCAA Regional Meet
Sacramento- The UC Santa Barbara Men's Cross Country team finished 10th at the NCAA West Regional Meet held on Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento on Friday morning. Twenty-seven mens teams competed in the West Regional. Stanford paced the field and won by an eleven point margin over the Oregon Ducks. 187 runners completed the 10,000m race.
Teams were allowed to run seven athletes and five of those seven counted for team scoring efforts. Junior, Bryce Rausa led the Gauchos with a 30:46 and a 44th placing. Rausa averaged 4:57 miles throughout the race. Finishing closely behind in 46th was sophomore Brian Guijarro with a 30:48. Guijarro had a 4:58 mile average throughout the race. Anthony Ortolan led the next wave of finishers with a 56th placing and a time of 31:02 for the Sophomore. Senior, Tyler Brady clocked a 31:15 breaking the tape in 62nd. Freshman, Anthony Monroy rounded out the top 5 with a 79th showing and a time of 31:34. Also finishing for the Gauchos in the sixth and seventh team slots were Adam Avila and Sophomore, Shyan Vaziri. Avila was 85th with a 31:39 and Vaziri was 102nd with 32:01.
The UC Santa Barbara Women's Cross Country team finished 18th. Thirty-two teams competed in the NCAA West Regional and 225 runners completed the race. The Arizona Wildcats took the meet with a 10 point victory over Stanford. Dani Moreno ran a tough race for the Gauchos and recorded a 27th place finish and finished with a new 6,000m cross country personal best of 20:18.
Moreno shaved 5 seconds off her previous best of 20:23, set at this years Riverside Invitational. She averaged 5:27 miles over the 6,000m distance and was the third fastest finisher coming in from Big West Conference teams.
Junior, Christine Cooperstein finished 69th with a time of 20:57, averaging 5:38 miles. Next in for the Gauchos in the third scoring slot was Sophomore Maxine Goyette with a time of 21:14 for an 87th placing. Running in fourth was was Sophomore Sarah Schreck at 21:45 in 128th. Completing the scoring in the fifth position was Freshman Emily Lopes at 21:53 in 136th. The additional UCSB runners were Senior, Jessica Chadwick and Junior, Bailey Miller. Chadwick was 157th with a 6k time of 22:12 and Miller was 171th with a 22:24.
