The men's cross country team is preparing to face off against the top teams in the nation after finishing second at the Big West Conference Championship meet two weeks ago. The 2012 NCAA West Regional Championships is being held Friday, Nov. 9 at the Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle, Wash.
The UC Santa Barbara men are hoping to redeem their drop to from 13th to 14th place in the nation and edge out teams such as Cal, Boise St., USF and Gonzaga.
After leading the Gaucho pack at the Big West Championships in a time of 24:22.5, Freshman Bryan Guijarro is looking to shave off even more time from his Big West performance.
Jeremy Acosta, who finished 32nd at this meet last year, is hoping to set the bar high with another top finish for the Gauchos.
The fifth year seniors Juan Paredes and Anthony Ortolan are also hoping to shrink down their season best times of 24:29.3 and 24:8.5 respectively, from their Big West finishes with the hopes of leaving the meet with personal records.
Completing the lineup at the West Regional meet will be Bhavik Kanzaria, Baxter Frick, Abel Mogesse, Bryce Rausa and Andrew Farkas, who all ran well for UCSB at the Big West Championships and are expected to fill in the gaps at the West Regional Championships.
The men's 10K will kick off at 1:15pm.
