Golic and Price Earn All-MPSF Accolades

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Two UC Santa Barbara men's water polo players earned All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation accolades it was announced Tuesday by the conference. Sophomore Milos Golic received First Team All-MPSF honors and senior Miles Price was named to the conference's third team.

Golic, a utility player, led UCSB with his 82 goals scored this season and was the MPSF leader for goals per game with an average of 3.04. Additionally, Golic led UCSB with 21 assists and 19 steals.

The native of Belgrade, Serbia scored in all but two contests this season and posted 22 multiple-goal games. He tallied a career-high seven goals on two occasions and he scored at least a hat trick in 17 games.

His 82 goals this season are the most scored in a single season by a UCSB player since Pete Zamoyski tallied 89 goals in 1990. In fact, his single season total ranks as the fifth highest in Gaucho history. His 135 career goals are tied as the 13th most amongst all-time UCSB career scoring leaders.

The honor marks Golic's second All-MPSF nod. He earned second team honors while also being named the 2007 MPSF Newcomer of the Year during his rookie season. He was also a 2007 All-American.

Price's placement on the All-MPSF Third Team marks the senior's first career conference honor. Price finished the season second on the team with 38 goals scored. He is also tied 16th amongst MPSF players with an average of 1.41 goals per game.

This season he scored in 20 of the Gauchos' 27 contests with 12 multiple-goal contests. He led UCSB in its 5-4 upset of then-ranked No. 2 Stanford on Nov. 9 with two goals in the victory. Price ended the season amidst a nine-game scoring streak, his longest of the year.

Additionally, the Canyon, Calif. native was tied second on the team with 12 steals and also dished out five assists. He ends his four-year career tied with Golic on the Gaucho all-time career scoring list with 135 goals.

UCSB ended the 2008 season with a fifth-place finish at the MPSF Tournament last weekend. The Gauchos posted an overall record of 17-11, marking their third consecutive winning season under fourth-year head coach Wolf Wigo. UCSB posted a 4-4 MPSF regular season MPSF record, marking its first season with a conference record at or above .500 since 1993. Santa Barbara tied Cal for fifth-place in the regular season conference standings.
