• This Week In Water Polo
The sixth-seeded UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team will head to the 2008 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament this week where they will face host No. 3 seed Pepperdine in the first round. The Gauchos and Waves will face-off on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Pepperdine's Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. The winner of this weekend's tournament will earn an automatic berth into the 40th Annual NCAA Championship being held at Stanford Dec. 6-7.

• For The Record
UCSB carries a 15-10 overall record into this weekend's action and the Gauchos finished the MPSF regular season with a 4-4 record, the best conference mark since 1993 when UCSB went 6-4 in conference play. That was also the last time the Gauchos finished the conference season with a record at or above .500. UCSB is guaranteed to finish this season with a winning record for the third consecutive season, a feat the program has not accomplished since 1976-82 when the Gauchos posted seven straight winning seasons. The Gauchos are currently ranked No. 7 in this week's Collegiate Water Polo Association Top-20 Coaches Poll.

• Gaucho Rewind
The Gauchos took last week off from action after finishing their MPSF schedule during the weekend of Nov. 15-16. UCSB faced its first home losses of the season to then-ranked No. 2 UCLA, 11-4, on Nov. 15 and then-ranked No. 5 Pepperdine, 10-9, on Nov. 16. UCSB posted a 6-2 record at Campus Pool this season.

• Serbian Sensation
Sophomore utility player Milos Golic continues to lead the Gauchos and the MPSF with his 3.00 goals per game average. This season, Golic has posted 72 goals and has scored in 22 of the Gauchos' 24 games, including 18 multiple-goals showings. The native of Belgrade, Serbia has totaled 125 career goals, ranking 15th on the list of UCSB's all-time career scoring leaders. He is the first Gaucho to post more than 70 goals in a single season since Colum Lavelle posted 74 in 1994. Additionally, Golic leads the team with 19 assists and 17 steals this season.

• Goalie Gab
UCSB goalkeepers Fraser Bunn and Michael Robinson currently rank second and third, respectively, in the MPSF for saves per game. Bunn, a sophomore, has posted an average of 10.3 saves per game this season while allowing an average of 9.8 goals per contest. Robinson, a junior, is currently averaging 9.7 saves per game while allowing 9.3 goals per game. Bunn has posted 119 saves this season and Robinson has posted 116.

• The Price Is Right
Senior Miles Price enters this week's tournament amidst a six-game scoring streak. The driver is second on the team with 34 goals scored this season, ranking 15th amongst MPSF players with an average of 1.42 goals per game. He currently ranks 13th on the Gaucho all-time career scoring list with 131 goals during his four-year career.

• Tootell In The Two
Junior two-meter player Jesse Tootell is currently third amongst the Gauchos with his 19 goals scored this season. He leads the team with 38 earned penalties or ejections this year. Tootell has scored in 13 of UCSB's last 15 games, including a seven-game scoring streak that lasted from Oct. 12-Nov. 9. His streak was the second longest by a Gaucho this season behind Golic's 21 straight contests with a goal.

• Wigo File
Now in his fourth season at UCSB, head coach Wolf Wigo has helped the Gauchos to a 68-55 (.553) four-year record. The last two seasons UCSB has finished the season ranked sixth nationally.

• Catching The Waves
Pepperdine enters this week's tournament with the No. 3 seed. The Waves finished the regular season with a 19-6 overall record and posted a 6-2 MPSF record, tying for second in conference with Stanford. J.P. MacDonell leads the squad and ranks fourth in the conference with his average of 2.00 goals per game. The Waves will carry a four-game win streak into the weekend's action. UCSB has faced Pepperdine twice already this season: the Waves posted a 12-10 win on Oct. 12 at the Southern California Tournament and a 10-9 win at Santa Barbara on Nov. 16. The Gauchos' last win over Pepperdine came during the second round of last season's MPSF Tournament on Nov. 24, 2007 via a 9-7 score.
