SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara junior driver Ross Sinclair was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mikasa Player of the Week for his 21-goal performance during the weekend's Inland Empire Tournament. Sinclair is the first Gaucho to receive Player of the Week honors since the 2004 season.
Sinclair, who currently leads the Gauchos in goals with 26 total on the season, posted 21 of those goals in last weekend's five games with a season-high six goals versus Redlands on Saturday. Sinclair tallied at least a hat trick in each of the weekend's games and is currently fourth in the MPSF for scoring, averaging 2.89 goals per game.
Sinclair is the first Gaucho to earn Player of the Week honors since the 2004 season when goalie Jon Bonafede received the honor for the week of Oct. 19.
The Gauchos went 5-0 on the weekend to elevate their season record to 7-2 overall. On Saturday UCSB captured wins over Whittier (17-4), Claremont Mudd-Scripps (17-6) and Redlands (13-8). The Gauchos followed up with a 16-5 win over La Verne and a 15-6 victory over Pamona-Pitzer on Sunday.
No. 10 UCSB will continue road action this weekend as the Gauchos make the trek to coach Wolf Wigo's alma mater Stanford for the Northern California Tournament being held at the Cardinal's Avery Aquatics Center. The Gauchos' first pairing will be against Loyola Marymount which they suffered a 10-5 loss to at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational earlier this month.
