Water Polo Heads to Inland Empire Tournament This Weekend

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After placing sixth at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational last weekend, #10 UCSB will remain on the road to compete in the Inland Empire Tournament, hosted by Redlands and La Verne, this Saturday and Sunday.

At UCSD, UC Santa Barbara opened its 2006 season by splitting the weekend with a 2-2 mark, defeating UC Santa Cruz (11-3) and No. 8 UC Irvine (8-7) while falling to No. 7 UCSD (9-7) and Loyola Marymount (10-6) to finish sixth.

Miles Price led UCSB in scoring with eight goals total and Rick Wright had 23 saves over the four-game weekend.

The Gauchos kick off Inland Empire play this Saturday, Sept. 9 against Whittier College at 10:20 a.m. and continue play against Claremont (1:00 p.m.), and Redlands (3:40 p.m.).

Sunday, Sept. 10 UCSB goes up against La Verne at 9:00 a.m. and Pomona-Pitzer at 1:40 p.m.

Saturday's contests will be held at Redlands, while Sunday's will be at La Verne.

The Gauchos went 4-1 at the Inland Empire Tournament last season, defeating Whittier, Pomona-Pitzer, Cal Baptist and La Verne. Their lone loss was a close 6-5 defeat against Redlands.
