UCSB Ranked 10th in Preseason Collegiate Water Polo Poll

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara, which opens the season this weekend at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, was ranked 10th in the Men's Preseason Collegiate Top-20 Water Polo Poll released Wednesday.

The Gauchos, who ended the 2005 season ranked 13th in the nation, received 54 points in the poll. The familiar foursome of Cal, USC, UCLA and Stanford top the rankings in that order.

Rounding out the top-ten are Pacific in fifth, Pepperdine in sixth, UC San Diego in seventh, UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount are tied for eighth. UCSB finished nine points out of the eighth spot.

Last year, Santa Barbara finished the season with an overall record of 13-17 and a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation mark of 0-8. The Gauchos, under second year head coach Wolf Wigo, were picked to finish eighth, one spot above their 2005 finish, in the 2006 MPSF Preseason Coaches Poll.
