Seven Gauchos Earn MPSF All-Academic Distinction

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Seven UC Santa Barbara men's water polo players have earned Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors it was announced by the conference this past weekend.

In order to receive this honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed at least one full year at their current school and have competed in 50 percent or more of his team's competition during the most recent season.

Senior Stefan Partelow earned his fourth-consecutive Academic All-MPSF honor while junior Brian Bishop and senior Sean Castillo each earned their third distinction.

Junior First Team All-MPSF selection Milos Golic earned his second academic honor from the conference as did junior Zsombor Vincze.

First-time Gaucho honorees were redshirt freshman Brian Shoemaker and junior Joe Plume.

The seven award winners top last season's six honorees. Stanford led all teams with 12 All-Academic award winners and UCSB had the fourth most among the conference's nine teams.

UCSB ended the 2009 season ranked No. 7 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Poll.

UCSB Athletics has a new weekly radio show called Talk'n Gauchos which airs every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. on AM 1490 KIST. The show is broadcast live from State & A Bar and Grill, located on the corner of State Street and Anapamu Street in Santa Barbara.
