Seven Gauchos Earn MPSF All-Academic Honors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Seven UC Santa Barbara men's water polo players have earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic honors it was announced today by the conference. UCSB had the third-most honorees - after Stanford (15) and UC Irvine (8) - among the conference's nine teams.

In order to receive this honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed at least one full year at their current school and have competed in 50 percent or more of his team's competition during the most recent season.

Senior Brian Bishop - who redshirted his first season at UCSB - earned his fourth consecutive MPSF All-Academic honor. Fellow seniors, Milos Golic and Zsombor Vincze, capped off their impressive athletic and academic careers with their third consecutive All-Academic accolade.

Sophomore Brian Shoemaker earned his second career honor. Meanwhile, Geng Wang, Matt Gronow and Brent McCunney were each honored for the first time by the conference.

The seven award winners match last season's seven Gaucho honorees.

UCSB ended the 2010 season as the sixth-place team in the MPSF and ranked sixth nationally.
