The No. 14 Gauchos scored eleven goals, netted by eight different players, to knock off Cal Baptist 11-5 on Friday afternoon at Campus Pool on the campus of UCSB.

Neither squad managed to find the back of the net in the first quarter, but Lancer goalkeeper Jon Miller did tally five saves in the opening period. The second quarter proved much different for both teams when the Gauchos posted three goals to Cal Baptist's two. Senior driver Ramiro Saldain netted the first Gaucho goal when he scored in the first minute of the second quarter. The Lancers quickly bounced back to even the score at one when Charlie Weaver netted his only goal on the match. The Gauchos and Lancers traded scores once again in the period before freshman Chris Lantz gave UCSB a 3-2 halftime lead with his only score on the day.

UCSB carried the momentum into the third quarter when it tallied three more goals and didn't give one up in return. Robbie Bauer became the first Gaucho to score in the third when he found the cage within the first minute of play. Leading goal scorer and sophomore Coulson Lantz also managed to score his first of two goals on the match in the third period. Sophomore driver Matt Tilburg scored the third and final goal of the period to give the Gauchos a 6-2 lead headed into the final period. UCSB added to its lead in the fourth by outscoring the Lancers 5-3. Two-meter defender Marc Morimoto netted his first goal of the season with 4:33 to play in the match. After another Lancer goal, Travis Watts and Coulson Lantz each scored for the Gauchos. Following John Olds' second goal for Cal Baptist, Gauchos Brett DeMuth and Tilburg each netted their second of the afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper Rick Wright tallied four saves in the first half of play. Sophomore James Street posted three saves in the third quarter, and senior Jon Bonafede earned three saves in the fourth quarter.

Following the match, Gaucho Head Coach Wolf Wigo said "The whole team played very well, and to be able to come out and defeat a team that [the Gauchos] beat by a single goal earlier in the season by six goals shows that the team is improving...[Cal Baptist] has gotten better over the season, but [the Gauchos] have also improved a great deal."

The Gauchos return to action this Sunday when they play host to Chapman at 10 am and Occidental College at 2 pm at Campus Pool.
