Gauchos Place Ninth at 2007 Southern California Tournament

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 7 UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team posted a pair of wins on Sunday on its way to a ninth-place finish at the 2007 Southern California Tournament being hosted by UC Irvine this weekend. The Gauchos defeated No. 14 Pacific, 13-7 Sunday morning and followed the win with a 6-5 victory over No. 12 St. Francis in the tournament's ninth-place game.

In the first game of the day against No. 14 Pacific, freshman Milos Golic posted a team-leading five goals, including three in the first quarter. The Gauchos held a 7-4 lead after the first half and outscored the Tigers 6-3 in the second half to take the 13-7 win.

In the tournament's ninth-place game, UCSB built a 6-2 lead after three quarters. St. Francis shutout the Gauchos in the fourth but was unable to make up its deficit as UCSB took the 6-5 win.

Miles Price led the Gauchos with two goals against the Terriers. Senior goalie Rick Wright had eight saves in each of Sunday's games.

Santa Barbara will resume Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action next week when they host No. 14 Pacific on Friday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. The following afternoon, No. 1 USC will travel to Campus Pool for a noon match-up.
