No. 10 Gauchos Outlast No. 8 UC Irvine, Split on Final Day of UCSD/Triton Invitational, Finish Sixth

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore Miles Price scored the first and the last goals, the last being the game-winner in overtime, to lift 10th-ranked UC Santa Barbara past eighth-ranked UC Irvine 8-7 on Sunday morning at the UCSD/Triton Invitational. In their final game of the tournament, the Gauchos dropped a 10-5 decision to ninth-ranked Loyola Marymount for fifth-place in the tournament.
In the morning match, UCSB jumped out to a 7-3 lead after two quarters. In the first half, seven different Gaucho players scored goals. Price tallied his first goal with 6:31 remaining in the first quarter to give Santa Barbara a 1-0 edge. Travis Watts, Ratko Paunovic, Matt Dale, Jesse Tootell, Ross Sinclair and Coulson Lantz each scored in the first half.
While UCSB was scoreless in the third and fourth periods, the Anteaters ate away at the lead and when Greg Enloe pushed home a shot at the 6:10 mark of the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 7-7. Neither team scored again in regulation and the teams moved to overtime at 7-7.
Price didn't waste any time, scoring at the 1:16 mark of the overtime to give the Gauchos an 8-7 lead. UCSB held on for its second victory of the season.
In the fifth-place game against Loyola Marymount, it was close through one quarter, a 1-1 tie, but the Lions outscored the Gauchos in the second quarter by a 5-2 count to take a commanding 6-3 lead at the half. LMU continued its assault in the third quarter by outscoring the Gauchos 3-1, taking a commanding 9-4 lead entering the fourth period. Each team scored one goal in the final period as the Lions won, 10-5.
UCSB is now 2-2 on the year. The Gauchos will travel to the Inland Empire Tournament on Sept. 9 and Sept. 10.. The tourney will be played at the University of Redlands and La Verne University.
