Honors: Second Season
Tim Settem joins the Gauchos for his second season as an assistant coach. In his first year with the Gauchos, he helped guide UCSB to a 17-11 record and a No. 6 final national ranking. In the spring of 2009, he also assisted the women's water polo team which posted a 17-12 record and took second in the Big West Conference. Prior to joining the staff at UCSB, Settem spent six years as the head men's and women's water polo coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. At CMS, Settem led the women's team to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships, and a No. 1 Division III national ranking in 2006. For his outstanding leadership, he was named the 2006 Division III Women's Coach of the Year. Most recently, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women placed second at the 2007 Women's Collegiate National Championships. They took third place in 2003 and 2004. In his six seasons at CMS, he coached 26 All-SCIAC players and 24 All-Americans. Additionally, both his men's and women's teams were ranked in the Division III top-10 all six years of his tenure. While at CMS, Settem also served as a coach of the Coastal California Premier League Team in the spring of 2004 and 2005. He also served as the co-assistant director and as an instructor at Terry Schroeder's Malibu Water Polo Camps and Clinics for five years. Settem got his first Division I coaching experience at Pepperdine as an assistant under current U.S. Olympic Team coach Terry Schroeder during the 2000 season. Prior to working with the Waves, he served as the assistant men's and women's water polo and swimming coach at Ventura College in 1999. Settem also served as a founder and coach for Ventura Gold Coast Aquatic Club and Foothill Water Polo Club. Settem graduated from Long Beach State in 1997 with a B.A. in physical education and went on to earn his M.E. with an emphasis in physical education from Azusa Pacific in 1999.
