Looking to Take it All
No. 6 UC Santa Barbara (11-2, 0-0) had a well-deserved week off from competition last weekend as the team came back from playing on the road three weeks straight. The team will travel to Irvine this weekend to participate in the competitive SoCal Tournament.  UCSB will look to produce the same magic as it did at last year's tournament where the Gauchos took second place with impressive victories over Stanford and UCLA.

The Gauchos will open up its tournament schedule against No. 11 Concordia (10-4) on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 12:15 p.m. If UCSB defeats Concordia, the team will then face off against the winner between No. 3 Pacific (10-1, 2-0) and No. 15 Santa Clara (9-5). If Santa Barbara drops its game, the team will then face the loser of the same match.

Leading the Way
Senior leader Matt Gronow is showcasing his value to the team as he leads the squad with a total of 30 goals through 13 games. Gronow is now averaging an impressive 2.73 goals per game, good for seventh in the MPSF rankings. Not to be overlooked, junior utility player, Derek Shoemaker has tallied an impressive total of 28 goals. With a solid 2.15 goals per game average, Shoemaker ranks tenth in the MPSF.

Whitelegge Impressive in Goal
Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Whitelegge has established himself as the answer in goal for the Gauchos this season. With 12 games started, Whitelegge has accumulated a grand total of 128 saves. Along with that impressive statistic, he is only averaging seven goals against him. Whitelegge looks to continue his strong play this weekend against the premier competition.

A Look Ahead
Santa Barbara will begin MPSF Conference action next weekend, as the team will play two of the top teams in the country. On Saturday, Oct. 19 at noon, the Gauchos will travel to Malibu to face off against No. 8 Pepperdine. UCSB will then quickly travel back home, as the team will host No. 5 California on Sunday, Oct. 20 at noon.
