UC Santa Barbara Athletics will host the first Nick Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament on July 14 at Sandpiper Golf Course. The tournament will honor the life and memory of the former Gaucho water polo who passed away in March. All proceeds will support the Nick Johnson Memorial Fund.
UC Santa Barbara senior, captain and native Australian Matt Gronow always dreamed of attending college in America. Following in the footsteps of both his brother, Chris and sister, Ali in attending a university in America, Gronow has loved every thing about his experience over the past four years in Santa Barbara.
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.– John Abdou, the UC Santa Barbara men’s water polo associate head coach, has been named the High Performance Director for USA Water Polo.
As High Performance Director for USA Water Polo, Abdou will oversee the Olympic Development Program as well as coach and referee development. Abdou has remained an active member in USA Water Polo as ODP East Region Technical Director since 2008. He has also been a part of the coaching staff for the Men’s Senior National “B” Team since 2010.
No. 6 UC Santa Barbara (14-5, 1-1) looks to rebound from a close 12-9 loss last weekend against No. 5 Cal (12-4, 1-1). This weekend presents a strong challenge for the Gauchos, as they will compete in two more MPSF conference games.
Sixth-ranked UC Santa Barbara faced No. 11 Concordia and No. 3 University of Pacific on its first day of matches in the SoCal Tournament. The Gauchos defeated Concordia 11-6 before they suffered a tight loss to Pacific 10-8.
No. 6 UC Santa Barbara (11-2, 0-0) had a well-deserved week off from competition last weekend as the team came back from playing on the road three weeks straight. The team will travel to Irvine this weekend to participate in the competitive SoCal Tournament. UCSB will look to produce the same magic as it did at last year’s tournament where the Gauchos took second place with impressive victories over Stanford and UCLA.
No. 6 UC Santa Barbara (7-2, 0-0) split its matches in the concluding day of the Nor Cal Tournament with a 5-4 win over No. 9 Long Beach State (9-4) followed by a tough 8-7 loss to No. 3 Pacific (9-1).
