Abdou to Coach at World University Games

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – John Abdou, UC Santa Barbara's associate head men's water polo coach, will serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's Water Polo team at the 2011 World University Games. The games are being held Aug. 11-23 in Shenzhen, China.

Abdou, who joined the Gaucho coaching staff this past February, came to UCSB from Bucknell where he was the head men's and women's coach for the Bison.

Abdou will not be the only Gaucho on hand in China. Men's basketball player Greg Somogyi will be representing his native Hungary and his teammate, Orlando Johnson, has made the roster of 14 for Team USA.
Jeff Menzel, who recently graduated after helping lead the UCSB men's volleyball team to the NCAA championship match, will also be playing in China for team USA.
Ryan Martin of track and field rounds out the Gaucho representation at the games.
