Men's Volleyball Opens Fall Season at USC Tourney Friday and Saturday
Oct. 20, 2010
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UCSB men's volleyball team will open its 2010 preseason Oct. 22-23 at USC's Fall Tournament in the Galen Center Pavilion.
Also competing in the six-team tourney are Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, Pacific and UCLA. Admission is free.
The Gauchos open against Long Beach State Friday at 4:15 p.m. and follow that match with a tilt against the UCLA Bruins at 6 p.m. Three matches are on tap for UCSB Saturday, including Cal State Northridge (9 a.m.), USC (12:30 p.m.) and Pacific (2:15 p.m.).
All matches will be the best of three sets, with the first two sets played to 25 points and the third set to 15 points.
"Most teams have only been training for a week or less heading into this tournament," said Gaucho head coach Rick McLaughlin. "It's a great chance to play many different line-ups and give each player a chance to compete. Although it's very early, it still gives you a sense of how your team is going to stack up and what you need to work on. I look forward to it."
UCSB will continue its tuning for the 2011 regular season at the UCLA SAC Tournament Nov. 19-20. Featuring a familiar, stacked field, Cal State Northridge and USC will also be competing.
Basketball season tickets are now on sale with men's tickets for as low as $125 and women's for as low as $100. A special "Double-up" combo plan is available for $200 and includes tickets for every men's and women's game.
