Jake Rosener Named Volleyball Magazine's Scholar-Athlete of the Month

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior opposite hitter Jake Rosener was named Volleyball Magazine's Scholar-Athlete of the Month in the latest May issue.

Rosener, a native of Cupertino, Calif., was a 2008 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic selection and finished this 2009 season second on the team with 258 kills. Rosener averaged 2.72 kills per game and averaged 1.43 digs per set this season, which was also second on the squad.

Rosener is a biology major, and according to Volleyball Magazine, lists molecular genetics as his favorite class at UCSB.

Earlier this year UCSB Athletics unveiled the BE Great initiative. BE Great is dedicated to maximizing leadership ability, strong on-campus interaction, and general welfare for all 450 student-athletes and Intercollegiate Athletics staff at UC Santa Barbara. BE Great also focuses on personal and career development, diversity, and social awareness, along with ensuring academic success. UCSB has a 92% student-athlete graduation rate.

The UC Santa Barbara Athletics Department is gearing up for the 2009 All Gaucho Reunion, scheduled on campus for Friday-Sunday, April 24-26.
