UCSB opens up its 2011 year with an immediate test: an exhibition match against the number one ranked Canadian team, Laval College of Quebec on Jan 4.
Laval is coming off a win against fellow MPSF team Long Beach State, and look to continue their roll in California at the Thunderdome this Tuesday night. Though it is only an exhibition match, neither side is taking the date slightly.
"Our goal is to get prepped for the [Gaucho Collegiate Invitational] this weekend. We had a long layoff with the vacation, and we want to get back in the form we were in before the break," said UCSB head coach Rick McLaughlin. "They're the number one team in Canada, so it will be a good challenge. We're excited."
The Gauchos look to regain the form that led them to a championship at the UCLA SAC tournament in November. Following the exhibition match against Laval, the Gauchos turn to host the "Gaucho Collegiate Invitational" on Jan. 8-9. They open up that tournament with a match against CSUN on Friday morning at 10 AM. To visit the tournament website, click here.
