Position: Assistant Coach
A former Gaucho standout, Jose Gandara enters his sixth year as an assistant coach for the UCSB men's volleyball team. Gandara played for UCSB between 1985-89 and is fifth all-time at UCSB in kills, seventh in solo blocks, 11th in block assists and 10th in total blocks. Gandara was named All-American in 1988-89 as well as being voted a member of the WIVA All-League team. In February 2001, Gandara was inducted into the UCSB Athletic Hall of Fame.

After leaving UCSB, Gandara played for the USA National Team from 1990-92 and for the Puerto Rico National Team from 1995-98. Professionally, Gandara has played in the Spanish Professional League, Brazilian Professional League, French Professional League and was named to the all-star team in the Puerto Rico Professional League. Gandara also played on the Bud Light Four-Person Tour from 1995-97, receiving Rookie of the Year honors and leading the league in kills in 1995.

Gandara has also seen a lot of action in the coaching ranks. His coaching career began at UCSB when he served as an assistant between 1992-93. Gandara has coached every year since then.
