SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – On the heels of a standout 2019 season that saw the UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation, the Gauchos return the bulk of its roster as they look to make a deep run in 2020. On Tuesday, head coach Rick McLaughlin announced Santa Barbara's upcoming schedule.

The Gauchos will play more than half of its regular season slate at home, with 14 matches to be played within the friendly confines of Rob Gym, where UCSB went 11-3 in 2019.

UCSB will once again host its annual Asics Invitational, opening the season against Concordia-Irvine on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 3:00 p.m. while also playing Benedictine-Mesa (Jan. 10) and McKendree (Jan. 11).

Santa Barbara has a favorable five-game home stand to start the year, following its trio of tournament games with a pair of home matches against Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, Jan. 17 followed by a Saturday, Jan. 18 match against Ball State.

From there, the Gauchos will hit the road for a lengthy six-game road trip spanning over a month, pitting them against Stanford (Jan. 25), BYU (Jan. 31 & Feb. 1), Ohio State (Feb. 7), Penn State (Feb. 8) and UCLA (Feb. 19).

UCSB will make its long-awaited return home on Friday, Feb. 21 against Pepperdine before making the trip to Malibu for a Waves rematch on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Before starting Big West play, the Gauchos will take part in a pair of crucial non-conference matches at MPSF opponent USC on Feb. 29 before hosting UCLA at home on Mar. 3.

Conference play will commence against UC San Diego in Rob Gym on Friday, Mar. 6. A much-anticipated matchup with back-to-back National Champion Long Beach State will occur the following week as UCSB heads to the Beach on Mar. 12 with LBSU coming to Santa Barbara on Friday, Mar. 13.

The final non-conference match of the year will see the Gauchos host Vanguard on Tuesday, Mar. 24 before continuing Big West action at CSUN on Mar. 27 and at home against the Matadors on Mar. 28.

The month of April will begin with the UC Irvine series, first on the road on Wednesday, Apr. 1 and at home against the Anteaters on Friday, Apr. 3.

Hawai'i will come to Rob Gym for a pair of matches on Apr. 10 and 11 before the regular season finale at UC San Diego on Apr. 17.

All matches, with the exception of the Asics Invitational, will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Big West Tournament is scheduled for Apr. 23-25 and will be hosted by UC Irvine.
