SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The national awards continued to roll in this week for the No. 9 UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team after seniors Corey Chavers and Hayden Boehle were recognized by Off the Block.
Chavers, who was named Big West Player of the Week as well as Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week, added to his collection with Off the Block's National Outside Attacker of the Week award. The Downey, Calif. native and Gahr HS product racked up 39 kills (4.33 kills per set) while hitting .459 (39-5-74) and adding nine digs and six total blocks in a pair of wins over Top-10 ranked opponents.
In a five-set win over then No. 9 Lewis on Friday, the Downey, Calif. native tallied 19 kills while hitting .441 (19-4-34) with seven digs and four blocks. Three of those blocks came down the stretch in the fifth set to help UCSB pull out the victory. Against No. 5 Loyola-Chicago on Saturday, Chavers finished with 20 kills on .475 hitting efficiency, with just one error on 40 attempts. The senior has been red hot during the Gauchos' current four-game winning streak, averaging 19 kills (4.22 kills per set) and hitting .396 (76-17-149).
Boehle, meanwhile, was recognized as the National Libero of the Week after recording a match-high 10 digs against No. 9 Lewis and added 12 digs in a four-set upset victory over No. 5 Loyola-Chicago. The Westchester, Calif. native now has eight double-digit dig matches in UCSB's 10 contests this season, and has four straight coinciding with the Gauchos' latest win streak.
Santa Barbara (7-3) looks to continue its winning streak this Friday, Feb. 1 when it welcomes No. 3 BYU to Rob Gym at 7:00 p.m.
