IRVINE, Calif.- The Gauchos’ season is officially over with a first round playoff loss to UC Irvine (26-24, 22-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-10). UC Santa Barbara finishes at 15-16 overall, 11-13 MPSF while UC Irvine improves to 23-6 overall, 19-16 MPSF, and will play the winner of Stanford versus Long Beach state.

In 2008, UCSB alum Todd Rogers and his partner, Phil Dalhausser, qualified for the Beijing Olympics as the top seeded volleyball team. That year, Rogers and Dalhausser had been virtually unstoppable on both the AVP and FIVB tours, tallying eight domestic wins and three international wins, all in Grand Slam events. Yet in their first match of the preliminary round of the 2008 Olympics, they lost in two sets to the Latvia team, the 23rd seed.
